Ever since Vulcan XH558 landed at Bruntingthorpe in March 1993 it has been the dream of Vulcan enthusiasts everywhere that one day this magnificent aircraft would once more take to the sky.
C.Walton Limited, bought XH558 from the Ministry of Defence following her retirement from the airshow circuit and she has subsequently been maintained in a fine state of health. The Pre Service (Pre A8-20) Technical Survey of XH558 was completed on schedule at the end of January.
Marshall of Cambridge Aerospace compiled a detailed illustrated report on their findings from all areas of the Survey. The contents of this report, together with other supporting information, were reviewed in depth during a week-long Workshop held at Bruntingthorpe at the end of February.
At the conclusion of the Workshop, representatives from the design departments of BAE SYSTEMS Chadderton and Marshall Aerospace, and from the VOC came to an agreed recommendation on whether the Project should continue on the grounds of technical feasibility.
The Vulcan Operating Company is delighted to announce the conclusion: the Project can proceed with confidence as regards technical feasibility. A successful restoration of the aircraft to airworthiness can be achieved within the planned timescales.
Now, all that is required to make world history is the funding.
